Seung-ro Lee, Seongbuk-gu Mayor, Joint Safety Inspection of Vulnerable Facilities Ahead of Thawing Season

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) has designated the period from February 26 to March 22 as the thawing season (February to March) safety inspection period. During this time, Mayor Lee Seung-ro, along with district executives and experts, conducted thorough inspections of disaster-vulnerable facilities in the area to strengthen safety management.

The inspection targets include approximately 300 locations such as safety-vulnerable facilities at risk of falling rocks or collapse due to ground deformation and cracks during the thawing season, steep slopes, construction sites, and other hazardous facilities.

The Seongbuk-gu joint inspection team focuses on ▲ subsidence, cracks, and uneven settlement of building foundations ▲ safety conditions of retaining walls, stone walls, fences including subsidence, cracks, bulging, and clogged drainage ▲ ground cracks around earth retaining structures and the installation status of struts and formwork supports ▲ safety and maintenance status of facilities.

On the 27th, Mayor Lee Seung-ro conducted a joint on-site safety inspection with Yoo Chang-soo, Seoul City Deputy Mayor for Administration. The site inspected had undergone emergency repairs after a residential retaining wall collapsed due to heavy rain during last year’s monsoon season. During the joint inspection, they discussed follow-up measures such as additional reinforcement. The district plans to carefully inspect disaster and safety risk factors in the area, incorporate expert opinions into the district’s safety management plan, and ensure the safety of residents.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu stated, “We will do our utmost to secure the safety of residents by thoroughly and regularly inspecting facilities with a high risk of accidents to prevent various safety incidents. We also ask residents to proactively check for risk factors around their homes and pay close attention to preventing accidents. Please report any discovered hazards immediately.”

Meanwhile, the district will continue joint inspections of steep slopes, construction sites, and vulnerable facilities with relevant departments and private experts until the end of March. Minor issues found during inspections will be corrected on-site immediately, and facilities with potential safety risks will undergo repair and reinforcement work. In particular, facilities with high risk will be subject to detailed inspections with experts in related fields to enhance the effectiveness of inspections and systematically manage risk factors.
