Nowon-gu, First Seoul District to Launch 'Comprehensive Air Conditioner Cleaning Support for Small Business Owners'

Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is the first autonomous district in Seoul to promote the 'Small Business Owner Air Conditioner and Heater Clean Care Support Project.'

Recently, due to abnormal climate, summers have become longer and hotter, leading to a continuous increase in air conditioner usage. With the electricity rate adjustment measures that started the year before last, it is widely expected that the summer cooling costs burden for small business owners will also increase significantly.

Accordingly, the district plans to reduce electricity costs by improving indoor air quality and hygiene environment and enhancing energy efficiency through cleaning and inspection of air conditioners used in small business establishments.

The 'Air Conditioner and Heater Clean Care Support Project' is carried out by air conditioner cleaning specialists selected by the district, who visit business sites directly between April and June. The cleaning involves not just simple filter cleaning but a complete disassembly cleaning using high-pressure equipment, including disassembling all filters and internal parts of the air conditioner, removing internal contaminants, cleaning the drainage pump, heat exchanger, and drain pan.

The support targets small business tenants with business locations in Nowon-gu who meet the following criteria: ▲business registration date before March 4, 2022, and ▲annual sales under 200 million KRW in 2023, applicable to both individual and corporate business owners. Within this year's budget, priority is given to those with lower 2023 annual sales, and one air conditioner per store can be applied for regardless of type. However, based on the National Tax Service inquiry as of the project announcement date (February 27, 2024), ▲businesses that are suspended or closed, ▲non-store businesses such as those with addresses in apartments or houses, ▲non-profit corporations and public facilities, professional occupations, real estate businesses, and ▲industries restricted from loan support are excluded.

The application period is from March 4 to March 11, 6 PM, and applications can be submitted via the Nowon-gu Office website or by visiting the Nowon-gu Office Job and Economy Division.

Required documents include ▲business registration certificate, ▲2023 VAT taxable standard certificate or tax-exempt business income certificate, and ▲business lease contract. Detailed application requirements and procedures can be found on the Nowon-gu Office website announcement board.

Meanwhile, the district plans to actively promote quality support policies starting this year, such as ▲visiting small business managers and ▲operating the Nowon-gu small business KakaoTalk channel, based on the local commercial district survey conducted by the newly established 'Small Business Support Team' last year to provide practical help to small business owners.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, “I hope this will help small business owners who have been burdened by the three highs (high inflation, high interest rates, and high exchange rates) even a little,” and added, “We will strive to prepare more active support measures to stabilize the management of small business owners, who are the foundation of the local economy.”
