The KOSPI fell more than 1% at one point during the session but narrowed its losses and closed down, supported by foreign investors switching to net buying.
On the 26th, the KOSPI closed at 2,647.08, down 20.62 points (0.77%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, individuals and institutions were net sellers of 48.3 billion KRW and 85.7 billion KRW, respectively. Foreigners were net buyers of 118.8 billion KRW.
By sector, the electric and gas utilities rose 3.92%. Medical precision jumped 1.73%, while machinery, pharmaceuticals, electrical and electronics, and transportation and warehousing sectors closed slightly higher. On the other hand, insurance, finance, and retail sectors fell more than 3%. Textiles and apparel, transportation equipment, food and beverages, and paper and wood sectors declined more than 1%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Samsung Electronics closed at 72,800 KRW, down 100 KRW (0.14%) from the previous trading day. Kia and Hyundai Motor fell 3.21% and 2.05%, respectively. Samsung C&T Corporation dropped 4.81%. Meanwhile, LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI rose 1.87% and 0.64%, respectively.
On the day, 233 KOSPI stocks rose, including Kumho Electric, which hit the upper price limit, while 660 stocks declined without any hitting the lower limit. Forty-one stocks ended unchanged.
The KOSDAQ closed at 867.40, down 1.17 points (0.13%) from the previous trading day.
By investor type, foreigners and institutions were net sellers of 28.6 billion KRW and 85.6 billion KRW, respectively. In contrast, individuals were net buyers of 134.6 billion KRW.
By sector, other services rose 4.80%. Chemicals jumped 1.79%, while entertainment and culture, and transportation equipment and parts sectors closed slightly higher. Conversely, transportation and general electrical and electronics sectors fell more than 2%. Additionally, information devices, broadcasting services, internet, telecommunications broadcasting services, software, and retail sectors declined more than 1%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, EcoPro BM closed at 242,000 KRW, down 5,500 KRW (2.22%) from the previous trading day. Shinsung Delta Tech fell 5.28%, while HLB, HPSP, and Rainbow Robotics declined more than 1%. On the other hand, Alteogen surged 19.36%, and Enchem rose 11.68%. Additionally, Celltrion Pharm and JYP Ent. increased more than 1%.
On the KOSDAQ, 544 stocks rose, including five stocks hitting the upper price limit such as Terra Science, Mohenz, and Zaigle. Meanwhile, 1,012 stocks declined, with Everybot hitting the lower price limit, and 90 stocks ended unchanged.
