‘Elegant Boss Children Scholarship’ Applicants Recruitment
Baedal Minjok is launching a scholarship program to support children of restaurant owners facing financial difficulties. Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, announced on the 26th that they are recruiting 2024 scholarship recipients for the ‘Woahan Boss’s Children Scholarship,’ which provides up to 6 million KRW per person to high school and university students who are children of restaurant owners.
The ‘Woahan Boss’s Children Scholarship’ is a scholarship program operated with a budget of 10 billion KRW since 2022, funded by the 20 billion KRW ‘Woahan Boss Care Fund’ established by Kim Bong-jin, the founder and former chairman of Woowa Brothers, to support restaurant owners. Sarangui Yeolmae manages the fund, and the nonprofit educational social venture Jump is responsible for selecting scholarship recipients and managing the scholarship program.
Through this program, a total of 619 recipients have received scholarships worth 3.6 billion KRW, along with mentoring and experiential programs, up to last year. Among the children of restaurant owners who received scholarships last year, many maintained their studies and improved their grades instead of taking leaves of absence or working part-time. A Woowa Brothers official stated, “Before being selected as scholarship recipients, 50.3% of university students had experienced or considered taking a leave of absence or postponing graduation, but after selection, the proportion considering leave or postponement dropped significantly to 11.9%. The percentage of students whose grades improved or who earned high grades also increased by about 8 to 10% within one year.”
This scholarship is open to any high school or university student who is a child of a restaurant owner, regardless of whether their parent operates a store on Baedal Minjok. Applicants must register and apply on the Woahan Boss’s Children Scholarship support website using the information of the applicant themselves, who is the child of a restaurant owner. This year, preferential treatment for children from multicultural families has also been added.
Kim Jung-hyun, Head of the Value Management Office at Woowa Brothers, said, “To grow together, it is important not only to support restaurant owners in running their businesses but also to address their practical livelihood and family difficulties.” He added, “Baemin will continue to take the lead in solving the challenges faced by restaurant owners and helping them grow for a healthy food service industry ecosystem.”
