Kim, the incumbent lawmaker of Jinhae District, Changwon City, Gyeongnam Province, stated in a press release that day, "Today, I announce my decision not to run in the 22nd general election," and added, "I am withdrawing my candidacy."

Lee said, "For the victory of the People Power Party in the general election, the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, and the development of the Republic of Korea, I will step down myself," and "I will start by reforming and innovating myself."

He said, "I have been running breathlessly as a professor at Seoul National University, president of the Korea Institute of Local Administration, Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Senior Secretary to the President for Political Affairs, and a two-term member of the National Assembly," and added, "Now, I want to open the way for juniors who can do better than me."

Han Dong-hoon, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, commented on Lee's decision not to run, saying, "Lee has served the people for a long time through important public offices such as Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and legislative activities, contributing to the development of this country and Changwon Jinhae," and "The People Power Party wants to receive the people's choice more humbly and earnestly together with Lee Dal-gon."

Excluding Lee, who declared he will not run, there are three applicants for the nomination in Jinhae District, Changwon City: Park Chun-duk, former Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly member; Kim Ha-yong, former chairman of the Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly; and Lee Seong-hee, visiting researcher at Korea University Public Policy Research Institute.

The Democratic Party of Korea previously nominated Hwang Ki-cheol, former head of the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. Hwang, a former Navy Chief of Staff, is making his second attempt at a National Assembly election.
