The Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Jo Guk New Party announced the recruitment of Attorney Shin as a key talent at a talent recruitment ceremony held on the 25th in Dongjak-gu, Seoul.
Former Minister Cho said, “The reason and goal for the creation of our party is to firmly and strongly fight against the Yoon Seok-yeol prosecution dictatorship regime,” adding, “We are working hard to bring in people who align with this goal,” explaining the reason for recruiting Attorney Shin.
Attorney Shin said, “I have decided to walk and engage in politics together with Jo Guk,” and “I will criticize the Yoon Seok-yeol regime’s tyranny faster and sharper than anyone else.”
He further described the Jo Guk New Party as “the party that can move the fastest and sharpest to bring an early end to the Yoon Seok-yeol regime,” and explained his motivation for joining by saying, “Listening to both criticism and praise together with Jo Guk is the dignified attitude of those who call for prosecution reform and a sign of respect for humanity.”
Attorney Shin, a former Secretary-General of the Justice Party, ran in the primary as a proportional representation candidate for the Justice Party in the 2020 20th general election but voluntarily withdrew from the candidacy amid controversy over his criminal record, which included one instance of drunk driving and three instances of driving without a license between 2006 and 2007 (with total fines amounting to 6 million KRW).
He later hosted MBC Radio’s ‘Shin Jang-sik’s News High Kick,’ but was removed after receiving severe disciplinary action from the 22nd National Assembly Election Broadcast Deliberation Committee, organized by the Korea Communications Standards Commission under the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, due to panel bias and other issues.
Regarding his drunk driving and unlicensed driving convictions, Attorney Shin stated, “Those who have lost loved ones due to drunk driving accidents, those who are still hospitalized or living with disabilities may feel unfair and resentful just by seeing me in public.”
He added, “It has been a long time, there were no personal or property damage accidents, I fulfilled my criminal responsibilities, and I served the punishment of withdrawing from the proportional representation candidacy four years ago, but these excuses will not soothe the pain of those affected,” and apologized, saying, “I am truly sorry for causing pain.” He also pledged, “I will not stop at saying sorry but will do what I must.”
Meanwhile, the Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the Jo Guk New Party appointed writer Jo Jung-rae and actor Moon Sung-geun as co-chairmen of the joint support committee.
