"I Jae-myung Wields a Knife Focusing Only on Personal Protection and Petty Revenge"

Seol Hoon, a senior member of the Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) not aligned with the Lee Jae-myung faction, announced on the 23rd that he received a notification from the party’s nomination management committee placing him in the 'bottom 10%' in the evaluation of current legislative activities. Seol harshly criticized Lee Jae-myung, saying, "He is wielding a knife only looking out for personal protection and petty revenge," and added, "I will soon announce whether I will leave the party."

At a press conference held at the National Assembly that afternoon, Seol said, "I was pushed into the bottom 10% simply because I did not protect Lee Jae-myung as an individual, because I tried to protect the Democratic Party for the people, not for Lee Jae-myung, and because I took the lead in upholding the true values and spirit of the Democratic Party."

He argued, "Over the past four years, I have sponsored 57 bills as the main proposer, maintained an attendance rate close to 100% at standing committees and plenary sessions, was selected as an outstanding member during the National Assembly audit, and participated in government questioning. In these objective quantitative evaluations, I am by no means behind other lawmakers," adding, "There is no room for me to be in the bottom 10%."

He further demanded, "I demand that the nomination committee clearly and explicitly disclose on what grounds I was placed in the bottom 10%."

Targeting Lee Jae-myung, he asked, "What kind of legislative activities has Lee done in the past two years? As a fellow standing committee member, I can count on one hand the times I have seen Lee’s face as the committee chair. How much questioning and bill sponsorship has he done?"

Seol said, "Under the name of innovation, Lee has not cut down on himself or his close aides at all, but rather actively intervened in nominations, leading the 'Pro-Lee Jae-myung wins, Anti-Lee Jae-myung loses' phenomenon," adding, "He has included all lawmakers who criticized him in the bottom 20% and is carrying out personal revenge. He mocks colleagues by laughing about lawmakers who received zero points and enjoys belittling them. Is this true innovation?"

He criticized, "Lee is wielding a knife only looking out for personal protection and petty revenge," and said, "He is placing only politicians who look to Lee Jae-myung, not the people, and is turning the Democratic Party into a party for Lee Jae-myung’s personal protection, not for the people."

Seol also hinted at the possibility of leaving the party that day. He said, "I will soon announce whether I will leave the party," and added, "The matter is too serious to decide alone, so I will consult with several people before deciding on my course of action."
