Gangjin-gun Opens the 52nd Gangjin Celadon Festival with Celadon Village Opening Party

Atmosphere Rises Ahead of Opening Ceremony, Ten-Day Grand Journey Begins

Spring Flowers, Children, and Daily Life Celadon Themes Entice Family Tourists

The first event of the ‘52nd Gangjin Celadon Festival,’ held for 10 days from the 23rd to March 3rd at the Goryeo Celadon Kiln Site area in Daegu-myeon, Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, kicked off with a spectacular ‘Celadon Village Opening Party.’

Under the theme ‘Come to Gangjin? Play with Celadon!,’ this festival, known as the earliest spring festival in the southern region to showcase red plum blossoms and canola flowers, features a children’s sing-along show and practical uses of celadon, attracting family tourists.

The Celadon Village Opening Party marked the official start of the festival as Gangjin County Governor Gang Jinwon, Mrs. Choi Haejin, Kim Bomi, Chairperson of the Gangjin County Council, Lee Honam, Chairperson of the Festival Promotion Committee, and other distinguished guests, along with children and visitors freely participating on-site, opened the west gate by pulling a traditional rope tied to a large celadon-themed curtain.

Following the gate opening, attendees celebrated with a parade to the ‘Play Stage,’ featuring performances by the Rap Percussion group, a giant avatar, and tall clowns.

Governor Gang Jinwon said, “As one of the oldest festivals in the country, the prestigious Celadon Festival welcomes you again this year as a spring festival,” adding, “I hope more people will enjoy the newly introduced half-price Gangjin family tourism benefits starting this year.”

Lee Honam, Chairperson of the Gangjin Festival Promotion Committee, expressed gratitude to the tourists celebrating the festival’s opening and visiting the venue, saying, “Please purchase plenty of Gangjin’s premium celadon and agricultural, livestock, and marine products produced in Gangjin during the ten-day festival, and enjoy the event happily with your family, lovers, and friends.”

Now in its second year as a spring event, the 52nd Celadon Festival features 69 unit events across eight categories, focusing on a child-friendly and easy festival experience. It is also linked to the ‘Half-Price Gangjin Tourism Year,’ aiming to stimulate consumption and revitalize the local economy, garnering high expectations from local residents.
