Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 22nd that, as the 9th Chair City of the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership (KHCP), it attended the '2024 KHCP Practitioners Academy' held in Australia and signed an 'International Cooperation Agreement' for the sustainable development of healthy cities.
At this agreement ceremony, the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership joined forces with two organizations, the Australian Healthy Cities Alliance and the Western Sydney Health Alliance, to confirm mutual policy intentions to realize healthy urban environments and pledged cooperation for successful implementation.
Through this agreement, the Korea Healthy Cities Partnership plans to further advance healthy cities by promoting the spread of healthy cities between the two countries, activating international activities related to healthy city policies, and strengthening exchanges with international organizations such as WHO (World Health Organization) and AFHC (Alliance for Healthy Cities in the Western Pacific Region) across various fields.
Im Taek, Mayor of Dong-gu and the 9th Chair of KHCP, stated, "I hope this agreement will serve as a turning point for the spread of healthy city movements in both countries by sharing excellent policy cases and experiences related to healthy cities." He added, "We will continuously strive to develop this into practical and mid- to long-term cooperation between Korea and Australia beyond one-time exchanges."
