A man in his 70s who lost consciousness and collapsed on the street was saved thanks to the help of police officers on traffic duty.


Officer Kim Mikyung of the 1st Mobile Unit, Ulsan Police Agency, noticed around 10:51 a.m. on the 21st that a man in his 70s, Mr. A, was unable to properly cross the crosswalk near Sinjeong Market in Nam-gu, Ulsan while she was on traffic duty.

Officer Kim supported Mr. A and helped him move to the sidewalk, but Mr. A was trembling and said he needed to use the restroom. Sensing something was wrong with Mr. A’s condition, Officer Kim requested assistance from Lieutenant Choi Gyutae, who was working with her, but at that moment Mr. A lost control of his body and collapsed.


Mr. A suddenly stopped breathing and lost consciousness. Lieutenant Choi immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and Officer Kim called 119.

As the two officers continued talking to Mr. A while performing CPR, he fortunately began to regain consciousness little by little. About five minutes later, the 119 emergency medical team arrived and transported Mr. A to the hospital. It was confirmed that Mr. A had a history of heart-related illness.


After treatment, Mr. A, who has now been discharged, expressed his gratitude, saying, "I don’t think I would be alive now if the police officers hadn’t helped me," and "I am truly thankful for saving my life."
