Transition to Hydrogen Commuter Buses, Support for Hydrogen Charging Infrastructure

The 5th Ulsan Hydrogen Industry Day commemorative event was held at 3 p.m. on the 22nd at the Ulsan Next-Generation Battery Research and Development Center of the Korea Institute of Energy Research.

About 100 people, including Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom, city council members, heads of hydrogen industry-related organizations, and company representatives, attended the event, which included △awarding commendations for contributions to the development of the hydrogen industry △presentation of major achievements in the hydrogen industry in 2023 △signing of business agreements.

At the commendation ceremony, seven people, including Song Hyun-do, CEO of S-W Innovation Co., Ltd., received commendations from the Ulsan Mayor.

In the presentation of major achievements in the hydrogen industry, Lee Jong-gyu, team leader of Ulsan Urban Corporation, and Jung Hoon, senior manager of Hyundai Rotem Co., Ltd., presented the results of the hydrogen pilot city development project and the hydrogen electric tram demonstration project, respectively.

At the end of the event, seven organizations, including Ulsan City, Hyundai Motor Company, Lotte SK Enerute, Lotte Chemical, Lotte Fine Chemical, SK Chemicals, and the Ulsan Jeonse Bus Transportation Business Association, signed a business agreement for ‘promoting the supply of hydrogen buses and establishing hydrogen charging infrastructure.’

This agreement includes ▲expanding the supply of hydrogen buses by converting company commuter buses to hydrogen buses ▲supporting the establishment of hydrogen charging infrastructure for the organic operation of hydrogen buses.

Ulsan City expects that this agreement will contribute to Ulsan’s leap as a leading hydrogen city and the establishment of a hydrogen economic zone.

Ulsan Mayor Kim Doo-gyeom said, “The annual Ulsan Hydrogen Industry Day commemorative event boosts the pride of hydrogen workers and provides a venue for harmony, while confirming that Ulsan is the best leading hydrogen industry city in Korea. Let us unite our efforts so that Ulsan can become the world’s best leading hydrogen city as exchanges among hydrogen industry workers become more active.”

‘Ulsan Hydrogen Industry Day’ (February 26) was first designated in 2020 to commemorate February 26, 2013, when the world’s first hydrogen electric vehicle was mass-produced at Hyundai Motor Company’s Ulsan plant, and to foster Ulsan as the center of Korea’s hydrogen industry.

The 5th Ulsan Hydrogen Industry Day ceremony is being held on the 22nd.
