Yangcheon-gu Confirms 13.7 Billion KRW Support for Education Expense Subsidies for 354 Projects at 102 Schools

Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Lee Gi-jae) announced that it will intensively invest a total of 13.7 billion KRW in educational expense subsidies to 102 kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools in the district to strengthen the competitiveness of public education.

This year's educational expense subsidies target 354 projects across four major areas, with the budget allocation by category as follows: approximately 10.3 billion KRW for universal welfare projects such as free school meals, approximately 2.7 billion KRW for school autonomy projects, approximately 550 million KRW for district-designated projects, and 120 million KRW for cooperative projects.

Despite a tight fiscal policy, the district plans to expand district-designated projects that embody policy visions such as creating safe routes to and from school, enhancing after-school care programs, and cultural and creative experience activities compared to last year.

First, to help students who have difficulty adapting to school and students with disabilities smoothly adjust to school life based on emotional stability, the district will continue the newly introduced “Special Class Support Project” from last year. To this end, a total of approximately 69 million KRW will be provided to 16 applicant schools for personnel expenses related to the operation of special and integrated classes.

Additionally, the “Safe Route to and from School Support Project,” which was launched last year and received great responses from teachers and parents, will also continue. A total of approximately 140 million KRW will be provided to 30 applicant schools, with up to 5 million KRW each for personnel and activity expenses of safety guidance staff to create safe routes to and from school free of traffic accidents in school zones.

To address the childcare gap for dual-income families and to support the operation of “After-school Care Class” and “Short-term Vacation Programs” aimed at reducing private education expenses and fostering creative talents, a total of approximately 124 million KRW will be invested in 15 schools.

Moreover, priority support will be given to autonomous projects tailored to each school's characteristics, focusing on creating a safe and pleasant learning environment. A total of approximately 2.7 billion KRW has been allocated for 343 school autonomy projects, including urgent environmental improvement projects such as purchasing supplies, replacing equipment, and internal facility construction, as well as creative convergence future talent development programs, cultural and creative activities, creative character education, career and college entrance experiences, reading activities, and school violence prevention projects.

To strengthen universal welfare and the public nature of education, approximately 9.3 billion KRW will be provided for free school meals from kindergarten to high school, approximately 690 million KRW for entrance preparation funds for new elementary, middle, and high school students, and approximately 330 million KRW for free education in high schools.

As a cooperative project, approximately 120 million KRW will be invested in the “Cultural Arts and Creative Experience Cooperative Instructor Support Project,” which discovers local talents with expertise as cooperative instructors and dispatches them to schools.

With the new semester approaching, the district plans to prioritize support of approximately 2.7 billion KRW for school autonomy projects and approximately 550 million KRW for district-designated projects in March to help with early annual curriculum organization.

Lee Gi-jae, Mayor of Yangcheon-gu, said, “We will faithfully implement customized educational expense support projects to improve educational conditions and strengthen the competitiveness of public education, creating a happy educational city Yangcheon for our children.”
