Public Hearing Held on the Afternoon of the 27th at City Hall Meeting Room
Debate on 1.5 Million Won Legislative Activity Expenses and More
Jeonnam Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced that it will hold a public hearing on the 27th afternoon at the city hall meeting room to gather citizens' opinions on the decision of the Yeosu City Council members' legislative activity expenses.
According to the recently revised Enforcement Decree of the Local Autonomy Act, the legislative activity expenses, which had been frozen for 20 years since 2004, have been raised from the previous limit of 1.1 million KRW per month to up to 1.5 million KRW per month.
Accordingly, the Yeosu City Legislative Expense Deliberation Committee held a meeting last month and tentatively decided to set the legislative activity expenses at 1.5 million KRW per month until 2026, and decided to hold a public hearing to collect citizens' opinions.
The public hearing on the 27th, chaired by the chairman of the Yeosu City Legislative Expense Deliberation Committee, will feature a debate on the pros and cons of the 1.5 million KRW monthly legislative activity expenses, and citizens' opinions on the appropriateness of the decision will be presented. Any citizen can attend as an observer.
Yeosu City will hold a second meeting in March to actively reflect the opinions gathered at the public hearing and decide the payment standard amount. Afterwards, the city council will make the final decision on the legislative activity expenses within the payment standard amount and revise the ordinance accordingly.
A city official said, "We aim to ensure fairness by reflecting citizens' opinions in the decision on the city council members' legislative activity expenses," and added, "We hope many interested citizens will attend."
Meanwhile, the 'legislative allowance,' which is the concept of members' monthly salary, is divided into legislative activity expenses and monthly fixed allowances. The Yeosu City Council's legislative activity expenses have been 1.1 million KRW per month since 2004.
