Pianist Lim Yunchan's first studio album recorded with the world-renowned classical label Decca, 'Chopin: Etudes,' is set to be released on April 19, Universal Music announced on the 21st.
Universal Music also revealed that the pre-release single 'Tristesse (Op.10 No.3)' was released today (21st).
Lim Yunchan said, "Pianists like Alfred Cortot, Ignaz Friedman, Joseph Lhevinne, Mark Hambourg, and Sergio Fiorentino, who are like vast universes to me, have performed Chopin's Etudes. Since I was young, I wanted to become a musician with a solid foundation like them, and with the desire to follow those roots, I chose Chopin's Etudes."
He continued, "Within Chopin's Etudes, there are various emotions such as the groaning of the earth, the regrets of the elderly, love letters, longing and numbness, and freedom. It is a great honor to record and release Chopin's Etudes under the Decca label."
Lim Yunchan's Decca label debut album, 'Chopin: Etudes,' pays homage to the album covers of Decca pianists' golden era in the 1960s. It uses photographs taken on film and the logo frequently used on Decca vinyl records at that time.
Lim Yunchan is scheduled to perform Chopin's Etudes at his Carnegie Hall debut stage on the 21st local time in the United States. Following that, he will embark on a nationwide solo recital tour starting with a concert in Seoul on June 7 to promote this album.
Lim Yunchan began playing the piano at the age of seven and won the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2022 as the youngest winner ever at 18 years old, along with two special awards in different categories.
