Clear Hangul Marked on Russian Shell Fragment... "Possible North Korean Origin"

Ukrainian Police Post Evidence on Facebook

Hangul inscriptions have once again been found on weapons fired by Russian forces at Ukrainian troops.

The US Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported on the 15th (local time), based on statements from local Ukrainian police officers, that Russia is receiving weapons supplies from North Korea.

On the previous day, Serhiy Volfinov, head of the investigation department of the Kharkiv Police Department in Ukraine, posted on his official Facebook, stating, "Russia is using North Korean weapons in the Kharkiv region," and shared photos.

The photos show fragments of shells found at a farm in Kharkiv, with the inscription "Suntaji-2sin" engraved on the surface. The investigation chief added that the fragments are from the shell's detonator device and that explosives experts are continuing their research.

Bruce Bennett, a senior researcher at the US military think tank RAND Corporation, also stated, "This could be evidence that it is North Korean-made."

This is not the first time Hangul has been found on weapons used by Russia. The UK-based arms monitoring organization Conflict Armament Research (CAR) recently released a report revealing related evidence. According to the report, handwritten Hangul characters resembling the consonant "jieut" (ㅈ) were found on the debris of a ballistic missile launched by Russia at Ukraine on the 2nd of last month.

Meanwhile, North Korean State Chairman Kim Jong-un held a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 10 last year. It was the first meeting between the two leaders in about four years since April 2019 in Vladivostok. Some military experts have speculated that the two leaders may have discussed arms deals.

Ukrainian military authorities have repeatedly claimed that Russia has been using North Korean weapons for some time.
