The Economic and Welfare Committee of the Gwangsan District Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City collaborated with merchants to revitalize traditional markets.
According to the district council on the 16th, a meeting to discuss the operation and institutional improvements of traditional markets was held the previous day, chaired by Councilor Park Mi-ok.
About 20 people, including representatives from traditional market merchant associations, attended, and voices were raised emphasizing the need to guarantee operational autonomy tailored to each market's conditions and to improve market holidays and operating hours.
Councilor Park pointed out, "The current ordinance does not sufficiently reflect the realities of traditional markets, causing operational difficulties, so it is necessary to revise it in line with changing times."
She added, "To overcome the difficulties faced by traditional markets suffering from recent price increases and reduced consumer spending, a solid institutional foundation must be firmly established. Starting with this meeting, we will continue constructive discussions to ensure the mutual development of the local economy and traditional markets."
