Designated Period for Intensive Inspection of District Heads' Issues 60 Days Before Election Day (2.10.~4.10.)
Survey on Residential Population Characteristics and Status by Dong to Reflect in Future Policy Making
Safety Inspections of Facilities to Prevent Major Accidents Conducted, etc.
From 60 days before the election day, various activities of local government heads are restricted, but Kim Gil-seong, the Mayor of Jung-gu, is expected to spend this period even busier.
On April 10, the 22nd National Assembly election will be held, and according to the Public Official Election Act, from February 10 to April 9, the heads of local governments are restricted from holding or sponsoring various events.
Mayor Kim Gil-seong has designated this period, during which administration may be somewhat passive, as a ‘Period for Intensive Inspection of Current Issues by the Mayor’ and plans to personally and meticulously oversee the progress of major issues and the safety of hazardous facilities.
Earlier, Jung-gu reviewed in advance whether all events scheduled from January to April would violate the Public Official Election Act. This was to ensure smooth administration without disruption, such as providing benefits to residents during the period. As a result of the review, most scheduled projects, including the 105th Anniversary event of the March 1st Movement, were found not to violate the Public Official Election Act and will proceed normally, and schedules for other detailed projects have been adjusted to proceed without difficulty.
Approaching the midpoint of the 8th elected term, during this period, the district will intensively promote the ‘Jung-gu Resident Status Survey.’ Jung-gu is located in downtown Seoul, mixing areas with high floating populations such as Myeongdong and Euljiro, and areas with large resident populations such as Sindang-dong. Compared to other districts, the proportion of single-person households and elderly population is also relatively high.
It is essential to accurately understand these demographic characteristics to flexibly apply policies suited to the regional characteristics. The district plans to complete the survey based on various statistical data and actively utilize the results in future major projects.
The district will also conduct thorough inspections to prevent major accidents. Since January 27, the Serious Accidents Punishment Act has been expanded, and if a serious accident occurs at a company with fewer than 50 workers and it is confirmed that the employer or management neglected safety and health obligations, they may face imprisonment of more than one year or a fine of up to 1 billion KRW.
From February 15 to March 8, Jung-gu will visit 15 sports and welfare facilities operated by the Facilities Management Corporation together with experts to closely examine whether internal facilities such as fire safety equipment are functioning properly and whether there are any hazards.
Mayor Kim Gil-seong of Jung-gu stated, “Over the next 60 days, I plan to strengthen the substance of various projects that have been promoted so far and work busier to efficiently carry out district administration after the election.” He also added, “I will once again check whether the opinions of residents conveyed on-site over the past year and a half are being actively reflected in district administration and deeply contemplate the development of Jung-gu to create a livable and reliable Jung-gu.”
