Chairman Nominee Jang In-hwa's First Day at POSCO Center

Jang In-hwa, former president of POSCO, arrived at the POSCO Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the morning of the 14th for the first time as the 'chairman nominee.'

On that day, Jang, the nominee, received business reports and other briefings at a temporary office set up in the POSCO Center and left work around 5:40 p.m.

Although the exact schedule was not disclosed, it is reported that he will have a tight schedule without rest for the next few weeks to understand the overall operations of the headquarters and affiliates across the group.

He is expected to receive business reports in preparation for his inauguration as chairman and refine management blueprints such as personnel appointments of presidents and organizational restructuring.

Jang is refraining from external contacts as there are still procedures remaining before his official appointment. During his tenure as POSCO president, he was known for his unpretentious and approachable personality, even arranging occasions to share a drink with the labor union as the company representative. Regardless of rank, he never belittles subordinates and always uses polite language.

A POSCO employee who worked with Jang in a practical department in the past said, "He treats all employees equally, whether on-site or in the office," and added, "He is a genuinely good person." Another employee said, "The atmosphere around is welcoming to him."

Born in 1955, Jang graduated from Gyeonggi High School and Seoul National University with a degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering. He is an engineer by training, holding a master's degree in Naval Architecture from the same university and a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

He joined POSCO in 2011 and has held positions such as Head of New Growth Business Division (Managing Director), Head of New Business Management Division (Executive Director), Head of Steel Solution Marketing Division, Head of Technology Investment Headquarters, and Head of Steel Production Headquarters (Vice President).

Jang will be appointed as an inside director of POSCO Holdings if he receives approval from at least one-quarter of the total issued shares and a majority of the voting rights of shareholders present at the shareholders' meeting scheduled for the 21st of next month. After the board of directors' approval, he will officially assume the position of chairman of the POSCO Group.
