Hamyang-gun: "Livestock Manure Discharge Subject to Legal Action, Will Take Legal Measures"
A livestock manure leakage incident occurred from a large livestock barn in Seokban Village, Anui-myeon, Hamyang-gun, Gyeongnam, contaminating a nearby stream.
According to Hamyang-gun officials and residents of Seokban Village, on the 14th, the Guigokcheon stream near Seokban Village had turned pitch black and emitted a strong foul odor that was almost unbearable.
The Guigokcheon stream in Seokban Village, Anui-myeon, Hamyang-gun, has turned black due to manure discharged from a livestock barn.
A resident of the village said, “I witnessed livestock wastewater leaking from the large livestock barn into Guigokcheon and reported it to the police and Hamyang-gun Office,” adding, “I understand this has been happening for several years.”
An official from Hamyang-gun, who visited the site that day, stated, “Since the manure leakage has been detected, we will investigate how and to what extent the leakage occurred and take action based on the results.”
He added, “Livestock manure discharge is subject to legal action, and we plan to handle it with a zero-tolerance policy according to relevant laws.”
As the number of large livestock barns increases and the cost of treating livestock wastewater rises, it is known that many places illegally discharge livestock manure, raising calls for strengthened guidance and inspections on this issue.
