Discussion on Bilateral Cooperation and North Korea Issues Ahead of South Korea General Election
Also Key: Watching LA Dodgers Game Featuring Ohtani
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is reportedly planning to visit South Korea on the 20th of next month to hold talks with President Yoon Suk-yeol, Fuji News Network (FNN) reported on the 14th, citing government sources.
According to the report, Prime Minister Kishida intends to meet directly with President Yoon ahead of South Korea's general elections in April to reaffirm bilateral cooperation and discuss current issues such as the North Korean situation.
This visit to South Korea is being promoted as part of so-called shuttle diplomacy between the two leaders. Previously, Prime Minister Kishida visited South Korea in May 2023 after the two leaders agreed to resume shuttle diplomacy.
The date currently under discussion for the summit, the 20th of next month, coincides with the opening game of the MLB World Tour Seoul Series, featuring Shohei Ohtani's LA Dodgers. Accordingly, FNN reported that whether the two leaders will watch Ohtani's opening game together is also a key point.
