Ulsan City Expands Road Through Industrial Complex to Help Reduce Logistics Costs

Expansion of Ungchon~Yongdang Road Underway, Goyeon Industrial Complex Calls It "Good News"

Central Government Consultations, Efforts to Reflect in Metropolitan Transportation Implementation Plan

Ulsan City is undertaking a project to widen the road to reduce logistics costs for companies located in the industrial complex.

On the 14th, Ulsan City announced that it has started a feasibility study and basic plan establishment service for the expansion plan of the Ungchon~Yongdang connecting road to alleviate residents' inconvenience in Geomdan-ri, Ungchon-myeon, Ulju-gun, and to reduce logistics costs for companies in the Goyeon Industrial Complex.

This project involves expanding a total length of 6.3 km section connecting Ungchon Elementary School intersection (former National Road No. 7)~Chunhae University~Goyeon Industrial Complex~Yangsan Yongdang Intersection (former National Road No. 7) from two lanes to six lanes, with a total investment of 141.4 billion KRW expected.

Ulsan City included the road expansion in the '1st Metropolitan Area Wide Transportation Implementation Plan (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport)' in 2007, but has faced difficulties in advancing the project due to lack of economic feasibility until now.

Accordingly, Ulsan City is now pushing forward with the project by reflecting it in the '5th Metropolitan Area Wide Transportation Implementation Plan.'

Last year, the city explained to the central government the actual situation of traffic inconvenience caused by logistics transport and commuting vehicles of companies in the Goyeon Industrial Complex, and to secure economic feasibility, changed the project plan and started the feasibility study service, planning to complete it in the second half of this year and then proceed with consultations with the central government.

An official from Ulsan City said, “The Ungchon~Yongdang connecting road is a metropolitan road connecting Ulsan City and Yangsan City, and during the feasibility study service, we plan to find various measures and establish plans to secure economic feasibility,” adding, “We will devote efforts to secure national funding by reflecting the project in the ‘5th Metropolitan Area Wide Transportation Implementation Plan’ through consultations with the central government.”
