Pedestrian Jaywalking Struck During Athlete Village Entry
National swimming athlete Hwang Sun-woo (20, Gangwon Provincial Office) was fined for hitting a pedestrian who was jaywalking while speeding.
On the 13th, the Cheongju District Court issued a summary order imposing a fine of 1 million won on Hwang, who was indicted for violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling (injury) and other charges.
Hwang is accused of hitting the arm of an 80-year-old pedestrian, Mr. B, who was jaywalking, with his car's side mirror around 7:35 p.m. on August 13 last year while entering the Jincheon National Training Center. It is known that he was speeding at 150 km/h on a road with a speed limit of 60 km/h when he collided with Mr. B.
Initially, Hwang was investigated by the police for leaving the scene without taking any action after causing the traffic accident. However, the police did not find evidence that he was aware of the accident and left the scene, and since he realized the side mirror was partially damaged and immediately returned to the scene, he was not charged with fleeing. It is also reported that Hwang Sun-woo reached a settlement with the pedestrian.
