Busan Gijang-gun (Governor Jeong Jong-bok) is producing and distributing psychological stabilization kits for suicide survivors in the area to help them through the mourning process and support their daily and psychological recovery.
“Suicide survivors” refers to people who have lost a family member or someone important and meaningful to them by suicide. This includes not only blood relatives but also friends, colleagues, neighbors, acquaintances, and others who are psychologically close or who have experienced psychological responsibility or stress related to the deceased.
Due to the death of a loved one, survivors experience overwhelming grief along with various emotions such as anger, depression, and despair. Especially in the early stages after the death, survivors may find it difficult to accept reality due to longing and yearning for the deceased.
The county has prepared psychological stabilization kits consisting of ▲sleep masks ▲herbal tea ▲massage balls ▲handkerchiefs ▲survivor help guides ▲counseling-related leaflets to support these suicide survivors.
In addition, the county conducts various support projects for suicide survivors, including ▲continuous counseling and long-term psychological support management for survivors ▲providing information on support (self-help groups, online mourning programs, etc.) ▲linking treatment cost support with the Korea Life Respect Hope Foundation. Survivors can contact the Gijang-gun Mental Health Welfare Center to receive stabilization kits along with psychological counseling.
A representative from the Gijang-gun Public Health Center said, “We will actively support the healthy mourning and recovery of suicide survivors,” and added, “We will create a safe Gijang free from suicide through various support measures.”
Since 2018, the Gijang-gun Public Health Center has been operating the Mental Health Welfare Center through a consignment with Haeundae Paik Hospital, promoting severe management projects for mental illness patients in the area as well as various mental health promotion and suicide prevention projects. Any Gijang-gun resident experiencing difficulties with mental health such as stress or depression can use the Mental Health Welfare Center free of charge.
