Seocho-gu Daycare Centers and Kindergartens 'Visiting Infectious Disease Prevention Puppet Show'

Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) announced that starting in March, it will conduct a "Visiting Infectious Disease Prevention Puppet Show" for local daycare centers and kindergartens.

The "Infectious Disease Prevention Education" program began in 2023 for children under 10 years old, who had the highest infection rates during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, a satisfaction survey of participating kindergartens and daycare centers showed a 100% intention to participate again in the puppet show, demonstrating an explosive response to the program.

Additionally, as the spring season with large temperature differences approaches, bacteria rapidly multiply and the risk of exposure to infectious diseases increases. The program aims to naturally educate children on infectious disease prevention methods through entertaining puppet shows.

This year, 54 locations submitted applications, a 20% increase from 43 locations last year. Among them, 36 sites were selected to conduct the infectious disease prevention puppet shows over four months from March to June.

The puppet show features various puppets teaching personal hygiene rules such as handwashing after going outside and cough etiquette, as well as promoting healthy physical activities and balanced eating habits to strengthen immunity and prevent infectious diseases.

March is especially important as it is the period when basic habits are formed in young children. Through the puppet show, children can easily and enjoyably learn proper handwashing and other habits, which is expected to help them maintain healthy lifestyles into adulthood.

A representative from a daycare center that participated last year said, "The prevention education through the puppet show was enjoyable for the children, and it was even better that the program came directly to the daycare center," expressing high satisfaction.

Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, "This puppet show was planned to protect the health of precious children who will lead the future," and added, "We will continue to promote various educational programs related to infectious disease prevention."
