Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 13th that it will provide rewards to informants who discover new households in crisis to encourage residents' attention to vulnerable households.
This follows the enactment of a related ordinance in September last year. The reporting targets are Bucheon citizens in need of assistance due to crisis situations such as financial difficulties, illness, disability, or risk of solitary death. When discovering a household in crisis, reports can be made by visiting the local administrative welfare center in person or by phone.
The city will pay a reward of 30,000 KRW to informants who discover residents newly selected as recipients of basic living security benefits, lower-income groups, or low-income single-parent families.
However, rewards will not be given if the report is made by legally obligated reporters, honorary social welfare officers, members or officials of the community social security council, or if the report is made by the household in crisis or their relatives.
A Bucheon city official stated, "Due to social structural changes such as single-person households and aging, social isolation has become severe, making residents' interest and active reporting crucial to finding and supporting hidden households in crisis. We ask that if you find neighbors experiencing difficulties, please do not hesitate to report to the local administrative welfare center."
