The line spoken by Gung Ye (played by Kim Young-chul) in the KBS 1TV drama 'Taejo Wang Geon,' which aired 20 years ago, is once again becoming a hot topic through a witty video.
On the 12th, the KBS Symphony Orchestra's YouTube channel posted a video titled ‘Gung Ye - Requiem,’ which re-edits scenes from Taejo Wang Geon to the music of Italian composer Verdi's 'Requiem,' ranking 29th among trending videos.
The 34-second video, uploaded on the 8th, maximizes humor by synchronizing the reactions of actors including Kim Young-chul as Gung Ye, Lee Il-woong, and Kim Gap-soo with the rhythm of the Requiem, showing conductors and musicians deeply immersed in the performance through compositing and editing.
In particular, the video features popular lines that have become memes online, such as "The madman fills the author's mind," "My troops, listen. Beat that madman to death," and "Who is it? Who just coughed?" which evoke laughter.
Although the KBS Symphony Orchestra's YouTube channel mainly featured traditional classical performances and introductory videos, this video became a sensation, surpassing 350,000 views and receiving over 1,700 comments as of 7 p.m. that day.

The video was produced to promote the 'KBS Symphony Orchestra 2024 Masters Series' concert. The Masters Series is a special program where the KBS Symphony Orchestra deeply explores the musical world of a particular conductor or performer.
As the video gained popularity, the KBS Symphony Orchestra left a witty comment: "Welcome to actor Kim Young-chul, who joined the KBS Symphony Orchestra's patron membership," and "Look for Kim Young-chul coming to the concert hall as an audience member."
YouTube users expressed surprise at such a cheerful video posted on a classical music channel. Comments included, "KBS Symphony, hold on tight to the person in charge," "I thought I subscribed to the wrong channel. Almost unsubscribed," "The author's mind is filled with Verdi," and "It feels like eating ramen at a fine dining restaurant," among various other reviews.
Meanwhile, the KBS Symphony Orchestra will perform Verdi's Requiem, the subject of this video, on March 7 at Lotte Concert Hall. Conductor Chung Myung-whun has been selected for the 2024 Masters Series and is scheduled to take the podium that day.
