Free Support for Crushing Agricultural Residues to Prevent Fine Dust and Wildfire Occurrence
Pohang City will implement the "2024 First Half Year Free Support Project for Safe Disposal and Shredding of Agricultural Residues" as the fine dust seasonal management period and comprehensive wildfire countermeasure period approach.
Agricultural residues refer to plant remains such as stems and roots generated after harvesting agricultural products like fruit trees and chili peppers, including fruit tree branches, chili stalks, perilla stalks, and soybean stalks.
The support targets farmers aged 70 or older and persons with disabilities who are registered as farm operators in the management entity registration residing within the jurisdiction. The shredding work for this first half of the year is scheduled to be carried out until April 30.
It is a principle that shredded residues are returned to the farmland owned by the farm. Residues infected with pests or diseases are excluded from the project to prevent the occurrence and spread of pests and diseases.
Farmers wishing to dispose of agricultural residues can apply in person at the town or township agricultural consultation offices for two weeks from the 13th to the 23rd. If residues are gathered on the designated plots, the shredding support team will visit the site on the scheduled date and carry out shredding work sequentially.
Kwon Ki-hyeok, Director of the Technology Extension Division, stated, "Supporting the shredding of agricultural residues is expected to greatly contribute to reducing fine dust and preventing wildfires by eradicating illegal burning on farmland, as well as to preserving the rural environment and promoting resource circulation through the return of shredded materials to the soil."
