Actor Nam Joo-hyuk's School Violence Allegation Reporter and Informant Summarily Indicted

A reporter from an online media outlet and a whistleblower who raised allegations of school violence against actor Nam Joo-hyuk were summarily indicted for defaming Nam with false information.

According to the legal community on the 8th, the Uijeongbu District Prosecutors' Office Goyang Branch summarily indicted the reporter and whistleblower who reported the school violence allegations on charges of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act.

Summary indictment is a procedure in which the prosecution requests the court to impose a fine or penalty instead of a formal trial. If the parties or the court do not express the intention to refer the case to a formal trial, the sentence becomes final.

The prosecution judged that the school violence allegations related to Nam, which they disseminated, were recognized as false in terms of factual accuracy and found that they committed the crime of defaming Nam's reputation.

Earlier, in June 2022, the whistleblower claimed through a media outlet that they had suffered school violence for six years during middle and high school, and that one of the perpetrators in the school violence group was Nam.

At that time, Nam's side stated, "This is a report that did not go through fact-checking with the agency or the actor," and filed a lawsuit against the reporter and whistleblower.
