Statement by the Spokesperson of the Chinese Embassy in Japan
China criticized the Japanese government's inadequate supervision regarding the leakage of contaminated water from the purification facility within the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Japan.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Japan stated on social media (SNS) on the 8th, "The repeated accidents during the Fukushima nuclear contaminated water treatment process fully expose the chaotic and disorderly internal management of Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) and the Japanese government's inadequate supervisory measures."
The spokesperson also demanded transparent information disclosure. They said, "This once again proves that the nuclear contaminated water treatment facility does not have long-term reliability and clearly highlights the need for international community supervision. We will closely monitor the aftermath of the accident and hope that Japan discloses relevant information in a timely manner."
Furthermore, they added, "We urge the comprehensive establishment of an effective international monitoring plan with sufficient and substantive participation from stakeholders, and the practical treatment of nuclear contaminated water in a scientific, safe, and transparent manner."
TEPCO announced the previous day that contaminated water leaked from an exhaust vent on the outer wall of the high-temperature incinerator building within the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. The total leakage amount is estimated at 5.5 tons, and the total leaked radioactive material is estimated at 22 billion becquerels (Bq).
