Gokseong-gun Supports Young Farmers in Smart Farming

Selected for Smart Farming Complex Project

30 Billion KRW Invested in 8 Smart Farm Buildings

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, is creating a ‘Smart Complex’ to provide job opportunities for young farmers and ensure the stable settlement of young people who have moved into the area.

On the 8th, the county announced that it was selected for the ‘Jeonnam YOUNG農 (Young Farming) Smart Complex Creation’ contest and plans to invest a total of 3 billion KRW to build eight rental-type smart farm buildings.

They will first establish a 6,600㎡ Venlo-arch type nutrient solution smart greenhouse in the Ip-myeon area of Gokseong-gun, and in the second half of this year, invest 3 billion KRW in the ‘Young Farmer Rental Smart Farm Creation Project’ to additionally install a 3,300㎡ smart greenhouse, thereby creating a rental-type smart farm complex.

The county will simultaneously promote the industrialization of vegan food to revitalize the rental-type smart farm complex.

Using agricultural products grown in the rental-type smart farm, they plan to develop vegan recipes and operate a vegan food school for local residents and visitors, as well as hold vegan farm parties to promote the rental smart farm and train vegan food experts.

A county official said, “Through this project, we will rent smart farm houses to young farmers at affordable costs and support online entry and sales through platforms such as ‘Gokseong Mall,’ which is operated by the county, to secure distribution channels for agricultural products grown in the smart farms.”

The ‘Jeonnam Young Farming Smart Complex Creation Project’ is a symbolic initiative that provides young farmers interested in smart agriculture with practical training environments and specialized smart farm practice and consulting to minimize early farming failures and promote the entry of young talent into the future agricultural sector.

To ensure the successful establishment of the project, the county is preparing to apply for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ ‘2024 Young Rural Settlement Creation Project.’

They plan to provide housing facilities for young tenants of the rental smart farms to create settlement conditions, and support various programs linked to the smart farms, such as building a community center shared with local residents that includes a communal childcare sharing space and laundromat, thereby establishing a self-sustaining foundation.
