Incheon City Selects 9 Areas for Low-Rise Residential Environment Improvement 'Happy Village Beautification Project'

Incheon City announced on the 8th that it has selected a total of nine sites for the 'Happy Village Improvement Project' aimed at improving the environment of low-rise residential areas.

The Happy Village Improvement Project is an Incheon-style regeneration initiative that improves the residential environment by renovating community-based infrastructure and shared facilities in areas where redevelopment zones have been lifted or where low-rise residential areas are densely concentrated. Residents directly participate from the establishment of maintenance plans to environmental improvements such as preservation, maintenance, and upgrading of residential areas.

Earlier, in January, the city received proposals for 10 project sites from autonomous districts and, after document and on-site evaluations by a review committee, finally selected nine sites: three each in Jung-gu and Namdong-gu, two in Michuhol-gu, and one in Dong-gu. Each of these districts will receive project funding of up to 3.3 billion KRW.

The selected sites will implement the Happy Village Improvement Project over three to four years, which involves establishing village plans through community activation linked with residents' autonomous councils, followed by renovation of deteriorated facilities and expansion of necessary infrastructure such as parking lots and parks, as well as shared facilities.

Additionally, more than one-third of landowners within the zones must submit consent forms for the project, and governance for each site must be established within the designated period.

An official from Incheon City stated, "We will actively cooperate and support efforts to reflect residents' opinions in the residential environment improvements in the areas selected for the Happy Village Improvement Project."
