Lawsuit Considered Over 'Fraudulent Sale' at Apartment in Geoje, Gyeongnam
Over 280 Households Shown 4,000㎡ Clan Cemetery
"Not Informed at Sale... Hidden in Promotional Materials"
A large apartment complex in Geoje, Gyeongnam, which was promoted as being located in a 'forest zone' surrounded by mountains and parks, has been revealed to actually have a 'grave view,' angering those about to move in. On the 7th, KBS reported, "Residents of a large apartment complex in Gyeongnam are considering a lawsuit, claiming they were victims of fraudulent sales," adding, "Hundreds of households in the complex are outraged because their living room windows overlook graves, so-called 'grave view' apartments."
The A apartment complex, with about 1,200 households, began move-in last week and was fully sold out within five months by promoting a pleasant environment surrounded by mountains and parks. Units with a 'clear view' even commanded a premium of up to 40 million KRW.
However, prospective residents who conducted a preliminary inspection last month were stunned. About 60 meters from the apartment complex's back gate, there was a clan graveyard covering approximately 4,000 square meters. As a result, about 280 households have backyards with graves and tombstones visible when they open their living room windows. It is closer to a 'grave view' than a 'forest zone.' One prospective resident told KBS, "Honestly, even one grave is disturbing. (Since it is a clan graveyard,) it could expand sideways."
They were not informed by the developer or the construction company about the presence of the graveyard nearby at the time of signing the sales contract, and the promotional materials even concealed the area with a compass direction symbol. They are reportedly considering a 'fraudulent sales' lawsuit. One prospective resident said, "I really feel like I was scammed," adding, "Since finding out about this, I have been going through indescribable pain." However, the developer has not responded to these claims, and the construction company replied, "We were unaware of the graveyard's existence during the construction process."
