New Year Vision Sharing Meeting Attended by District Mayor, All Department Heads, and Policy Advisory Committee
Seeking Collaboration on Four Major Strategies for 2024 Seoul Northwest Area as a Central City
Accelerating Efforts to Achieve Resident Priority Projects and Core Task Outcomes Through the Meeting
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) held a 'New Year Vision Sharing Report Meeting' on the 5th and 6th in the main conference room of the district office to promote interdepartmental collaboration and consensus on key projects for 2024.
The report meeting was attended by about 60 people, including the mayor, deputy mayor, all directors and department heads, and policy advisory committee members. It proceeded with reports on key tasks, issues, and countermeasures by department, followed by discussions.
Previously, under the vision of '100% Happy Seodaemun,' the district established the 'Four Major Focus Strategies for 2024' as follows: ▲Faster! A rapidly growing central city of the northwestern area ▲Newer! A young future city attracting youth ▲Closer! A premium healing city with culture and rest ▲More comfortable! A safe and secure welfare city for everyone.
According to the report, the 'Planning and Finance Bureau' set its main core tasks as stable financial management through securing external funds, securing competitiveness of Sinchon and Ewha commercial districts, globalizing the youth-based 'Cafe Pokpo,' supporting youth ventures, and building an ecosystem for youth employment and startups.
The 'Administration and Autonomy Bureau' focuses on strengthening the capabilities of local leaders such as community and block chiefs and expanding their activity support, providing universal educational support to reduce educational gaps, and managing progress for the construction of a complex community service center.
The 'Smart Environment and Living Bureau' set 'Enhancing citizen safety through advanced digital technology' as its main goal. To achieve this, it plans to build smart safety facilities along Seodaemun Ieumgil, expand smart safety management services for semi-basement households, and establish a smart safety management system for facilities at risk of collapse. Additionally, it will oversee the installation of escalators at Hongje Station and the lifting of the Yonsei-ro public transportation-only zone.
The 'Welfare, Culture, and Sports Bureau' concentrates administrative efforts on establishing a thick and dense welfare safety net by building a sustainable birth support city, discovering and supporting vulnerable groups and households in crisis, and expanding senior job opportunities. It also focuses on hosting four major festivals utilizing historical and cultural assets such as Seodaemun Prison History Hall, the Provisional Government Memorial Hall, and Independence Gate, as well as promoting community health through the activation of sports for daily life.
The 'Urban Maintenance Bureau,' following the passage of the 'Special Act on Railroad Undergrounding and Integrated Development of Railroad Sites' in the National Assembly plenary session last month, is accelerating preparations for the undergrounding and three-dimensional integrated development of the Gyeongui Line. At the same time, it is concentrating its capabilities on creating a concrete roadmap for regional advancement, including the Hongje District Center station area revitalization project, establishing a mid- to long-term master plan for revitalizing Sinchon and Ewha areas, and three-dimensional integrated development around Yonsei-ro.
The 'Safety and Construction Bureau' is focusing on 24-hour operation of the disaster safety situation room and strengthening response systems amid the trend of complex and large-scale disasters. It is also enhancing functions for proactive identification of disaster risk factors and safety inspections. Furthermore, it has designated the creation of healing spaces along Hongjecheon and Bulgwangcheon streams and additional projects for clay road and barefoot walking trails as core tasks closely related to residents' daily lives.
The 'Seodaemun-gu Public Health Center' is prioritizing the creation of a companion animal culture center, the successful operation of the first public postpartum care center in northwest Seoul and strengthening resident benefits, and the operation of the dementia patient rest center 'Memory Care School Green Class' to improve residents' quality of life.
At the report meeting, Mayor Lee Seongheon emphasized, "This year, the third year of the 8th elected term, we must accelerate the 'speed' of project implementation to achieve tangible changes that residents can feel in the region." He stressed, "In particular, we will swiftly advance major issues such as the undergrounding of the Gyeongui Line, the creation of the New University Street, redevelopment and reconstruction maintenance projects, urban air mobility (UAM) and smart+building projects, the completion of the overpass, and the escalator at Hongje Station."
He also requested, "To achieve rapid results, please establish a close cooperative system with the government, Seoul City, and related organizations, and prepare multifaceted promotion plans together with the Policy Advisory Committee."
