It has been reported that Jang Young-jin, former 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, has applied for the position of President of the Korea Trade Insurance Corporation (K-Sure), which is currently accepting applications.
According to the trade industry on the 7th, Jang and others applied for the next president position of K-Sure by the deadline of the 26th of last month. K-Sure plans to conduct interviews with the applicants this week.
Former President Lee In-ho has led K-Sure since January 2019. His original term was until January 2022, but he has served as president for five years as the successor appointment process was delayed. K-Sure held the president recruitment from the 19th to the 26th of last month, and Lee stepped down last week.
The K-Sure Executive Recommendation Committee will notify the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy of twice the number of candidates after document screening and interviews. Then, the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy will recommend a candidate, and President Yoon Suk-yeol will appoint the next president.
Exports this year increased by 18% year-on-year even in January, continuing the growth trend that began in October last year for four consecutive months. On the 31st of last month, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced the 2024 work plan, setting this year’s export target at 700 billion dollars. To achieve this goal, the ministry plans to increase trade finance support to a record high of 355 trillion won this year. Accordingly, there is a high possibility that the appointment of the president of K-Sure, a key export support institution, will be made as early as this month.
