A Sharp Rebuke to Medical Groups Filing Lawsuits Against the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs
The Semi-Linked Proportional Representation System Means "Continued Shielding of Party Leaders"
Yoon Jae-ok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, demanded that medical associations opposing the expansion of medical school quotas take responsibility. He also criticized the Democratic Party of Korea for announcing the day before that they would stick to the semi-proportional representation system, calling it a 'shield for the party leader.'

At the floor leaders' meeting held at the National Assembly main building on the 6th, Floor Leader Yoon said, "Are you going to sue the OECD, which published statistics showing that the number of Korean doctors is lower than the OECD average as well as Japan and France?" This remark came after a medical association filed a lawsuit against the Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, which conducted research indicating a shortage of doctors in Korea.
He continued, "Even doctors who are determined to stay in essential medical departments out of a sense of duty are losing their will due to work overload caused by manpower shortages," adding, "Considering patients who die because proper measures are not taken in medical settings, medical associations must not fall into collective selfishness."
He then emphasized, "I ask each medical association to show a responsible attitude so that doctors can remain a respected profession."
Regarding the Democratic Party's announcement to maintain the semi-proportional representation system in the April 10 general election, he criticized, "It is a declaration to continue shielding the party leader through the activist 'Gaeddal' election coalition." He defined it as "a declaration that the Democratic Party will continue parliamentary dictatorship by joining hands with activists in the 22nd National Assembly, following the worst 21st National Assembly stained by legislative rampage by the Democratic Party."
Furthermore, he said, "The most outrageous excuse from the Democratic Party is that the satellite party prohibition law failed due to opposition from the ruling party," explaining, "The ruling party has consistently advocated adopting an election law that makes the creation of satellite parties impossible."
