Huons Collaborates with Epilbio to Develop Respiratory Health Functional Food

Huons recently announced on the 6th that it has signed a technology transfer agreement with Epil Bioscience for a functional health food ingredient aimed at improving respiratory health.

The technology transferred this time involves a functional ingredient derived from parsnip, a root vegetable from the Apiaceae family, which helps support respiratory health. It was developed through joint research by Epil Bioscience and Professor Kim Jae-gyeom’s team at Korea University. Huons has completed a U.S. patent application for the parsnip extract technology and, recognizing its potential and technological value, decided to enter into the technology transfer agreement. Through this agreement, Huons plans to secure exclusive rights to the technology and enter the health functional food market targeting respiratory health.


The research team demonstrated through animal experiments that intake of processed parsnip extract effectively reduces inflammatory responses induced by particulate matter marker substances and helps restore damage to the bronchial walls. Since the ingredient is widely consumed as food, it is expected that if developed as a health functional food, it could aid respiratory health.


A Huons representative stated, “So far, there are no individually recognized ingredients acknowledged for respiratory health,” adding, “As health authorities encourage the development of individually recognized ingredients that can support respiratory health, we will strive to create a market for functional materials targeting respiratory health.”
