Among major countries in the Asia-Pacific region, South Korea was found to have the fastest mobile communication speed.

According to the British market research firm Opensignal on the 4th, a survey conducted from October 1 to December 29 last year targeting 25 countries in the Asia-Pacific region showed that South Korea's average mobile download speed was 140.2 Mbps (megabits per second), ranking first.

This is about 14.8 Mbps faster than the 125.3 Mbps recorded in the survey two years ago, and the physical speed gap with second-place Singapore (71.1 Mbps) widened to more than double.

Australia (58.5 Mbps) and Taiwan (55.7 Mbps) ranked third and fourth respectively, while India (51.5 Mbps) improved its speed by about 3.34 times compared to 2022 (15.4 Mbps). Malaysia (38.1 Mbps) also increased its speed by about 1.88 times compared to the previous year's survey (20.2 Mbps).

South Korea maintained its lead with an average 5G mobile download speed of 436.7 Mbps among 15 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Malaysia (337.7 Mbps) and Singapore (292.9 Mbps) followed, with India (280.7 Mbps), New Zealand (259.6 Mbps), and Taiwan (211.7 Mbps) ranked subsequently.

In the '5G mobile availability' indicator, which refers to the proportion of time connected to 5G mobile networks, India (44.3%) surpassed South Korea (38.3%) to take the lead. Singapore (33.3%), Thailand (24.8%), and Malaysia (23.6%) followed.

In Europe, Norway (102.3 Mbps) had the fastest average mobile download speed, with Denmark (98.8 Mbps), the Netherlands (81.7 Mbps), Finland (71.6 Mbps), Bulgaria (71.1 Mbps), and Croatia (70.8 Mbps) also ranking high.

In the Middle East and North Africa region, Kuwait (55.1 Mbps), Bahrain (54.5 Mbps), Qatar (50.5 Mbps), and Oman (41.2 Mbps) stood out relatively.

Opensignal noted significant speed improvements in most markets worldwide, citing the spread of 5G mobile communication and increased utilization of frequency bands as reasons. However, it pointed out that in some regions, the improvement was small, resulting in a greater difference in network experience depending on the country of residence compared to 2022.
