Operation of Intensive Vaccination Period Until the 8th
Encouragement for High-Risk Groups Including Those Aged 65 and Over
Hwasun County (Governor Gu Bok-gyu) announced on the 2nd that it will operate a focused COVID-19 vaccination period until the 8th ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday.
This is to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection among high-risk groups as overseas travel, family gatherings, and visits to vulnerable facilities are expected to increase during the Lunar New Year holiday.
During the focused vaccination period, the county will post Lunar New Year tailored promotional materials (guides, card news, etc.) on its website. It plans to intensively encourage vaccination for high-risk groups with high severity and fatality rates, such as those aged 65 and older, patients and residents of vulnerable facilities, and immunocompromised individuals.
Recently, the number of COVID-19 positive cases has been increasing nationwide, and cluster infections have occurred in some vulnerable facilities in other local governments. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, new vaccinations for high-risk groups, including patients and residents of nursing hospitals and facilities, are necessary.
According to the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency, domestic and international studies have shown that the new COVID-19 vaccines provide sufficient preventive effects against the newly circulating variants.
COVID-19 vaccination is completed with one dose during the vaccination period regardless of previous vaccination history, and even if the primary vaccinations (1st and 2nd doses) were not completed before, no additional doses are required if the new vaccine has been administered.
Vaccinations are available at designated medical institutions and public health centers nationwide regardless of the address, and detailed information can be found on the ‘COVID-19 Vaccination Website’.
Park Mira, Director of the Public Health Center, said, “In a situation where respiratory infectious diseases other than COVID-19 are spreading, we hope that high-risk groups, such as those aged 65 and older who have a high risk of severe illness and death, will actively participate in COVID-19 vaccination and have a safe holiday.” She added, “We will strive to prevent the spread of infection within the community through safe vaccination.”
