Yeonsu-gu, Incheon announced on the 2nd that it will expand the operation of resource circulation stores, where residents can exchange collected recyclables for items such as volume-based waste bags and tissue paper, to all neighborhoods within the district.
Until now, the district has operated six resource circulation stores, including Pureundure Cooperative, to increase the collection rate of high-quality recyclables such as PET bottles and cans and to encourage proper separation and disposal.
However, starting in February, the operation has been expanded to a total of 16 locations, including 15 neighborhood administrative welfare centers and Emart Yeonsu branch, and in cooperation with the Yeonsu-gu Senior Workforce Development Center, elderly personnel have been assigned as resource circulation activists in each neighborhood.
Residents can bring recyclables to the nearest resource circulation store in any neighborhood and receive in-kind exchanges such as volume-based waste bags or tissue paper according to the exchange amount per item. However, to exchange recyclables, the contents must be emptied, washed with water to remove foreign substances and labels, and dried before bringing them.
To commemorate the expansion and operation of the resource circulation stores, Yeonsu-gu is holding a "Double Reward Event" until April 30, during which recyclables brought in will be rewarded at twice the usual rate.
The recyclables are collected by waste collection and transportation companies and transported to transfer stations for processing. The district expects that this expanded operation will play a significant role in spreading the resource circulation culture and improving the recycling rate.
Lee Jae-ho, Mayor of Yeonsu-gu, said, "Establishing a resource circulation culture ourselves is essential for future generations," and added, "We hope for much interest and active participation in the resource circulation stores so that small actions can protect the environment and also help in daily life."
