Advanced Regenerative Medicine Industry Association Appoints Lee Deukju as New President

The Center for Advanced Regenerative Medicine (CARM) announced on the 1st that at the 2024 regular board meeting held on the same day, Lee Deuk-ju, Senior Advisor at Green Cross Holdings (GC), was officially appointed as the chairman.

CARM is a corporate-centered organization aimed at revitalizing the domestic regenerative medicine industry and leading the global regenerative medicine market. Since its launch in 2016, it was approved as a non-profit corporation by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in 2022.


The new chairman graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine, earned a Master of Public Health from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in Medicine (Microbiology) from Korea University. He subsequently served as Director of External Cooperation at Ajou University Medical Center, CEO of Green Cross Cell, Vice Chairman of GC Cell, and is currently serving as Senior Advisor at GC.


The new chairman has served as the Chair of the Policy Committee at CARM since 2020. The CARM Policy Committee has been providing opinions during the enactment of the Advanced Regenerative Bio Act Enforcement Decree and the regulations on the safety and support of advanced regenerative medicine.


The new chairman stated, “With some amendments to the Advanced Regenerative Bio Act passing the National Assembly on the 1st, significant changes are expected in the advanced regenerative medicine market, including cell therapy and gene therapy. We will actively support regulatory improvements and policy support efficiency in cooperation with policy authorities for the advancement of national healthcare and the promotion of public health.”


Meanwhile, besides the new chairman Lee Deuk-ju, CARM also announced the formation of a new executive team. Kim Deok-sang, CEO of Sartorius Korea, was appointed as Vice Chairman, and James Park, CEO of GC Cell, Yoon Chae-ok, CEO of Jin Medicine, and Na Jong-cheon, CEO of Kangstem Biotech, joined as new directors. The three subcommittees under the association?the Policy Committee, External Cooperation Committee, and Corporate Exchange Committee?will be chaired by CEO Yoon Chae-ok as Policy Chair, CEO Kim Young of Synex as External Cooperation Chair, and CEO Lee Ui-il of Excel Therapeutics as Corporate Exchange Chair, respectively.
