"Jesse Lingard Wants a Fresh Start in a New Country"
Attacking midfielder Jesse Lingard (32), who played for Manchester United (Man Utd), is reported to potentially wear the FC Seoul uniform in the K League.
On the 1st (local time), the leading British sports media Sky Sports reported on Lingard's situation. The outlet stated, "Lingard is on the verge of a 'surprise transfer' to South Korea. A move to FC Seoul is imminent," adding, "It is understood that a verbal agreement has been reached, including a basic two-year contract with an option to extend for one year." They continued, "He is expected to depart within a few days to finalize the contract," and added, "It is said that he wants a fresh start in a new country."
British broadcaster BBC also reported the same contract terms and said, "Lingard is seriously considering the move to FC Seoul." However, BBC added, "At this point, it is unclear whether Lingard will accept FC Seoul's offer." If Lingard joins FC Seoul, he is expected to become the highest-profile foreign player in K League history.
Born in 1992, Lingard joined Manchester United's youth team in 2000 and was loaned to Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Derby County before establishing himself at his parent club Man Utd from the 2015?2016 season. During his prime, Lingard's greatest strength was his vigorous activity in the attacking third.
However, Lingard played only 16 league matches and scored 2 goals for Man Utd in the 2021?2022 season and left the club after that season. His overall record at Man Utd stands at 232 appearances and 35 goals. Afterward, Lingard joined Nottingham Forest but was completely sidelined in the competition for a starting spot, and after the 2022?2023 season, he has yet to find a new club.
Meanwhile, Lingard is famous for his unique flute-playing celebration. After scoring, his trademark gesture involves lively footwork and mimicking playing a flute with both hands, which has become his signature move.
