Gyeonggi Province will recruit 2,594 new public officials this year. The number includes those from Gyeonggi Province, 31 cities and counties within the province, and the provincial council.
On the 1st, Gyeonggi Province announced the 2024 implementation plans for the ‘1st and 2nd Open Competitive Recruitment Exams (Grades 7, 8, and 9)’ and the ‘1st, 2nd, and 3rd Career Competitive Recruitment Exams (Researcher/Instructor, Grades 7 and 9)’ on the Gyeonggi Province website.
First, through the open competitive recruitment exams, a total of 2,393 candidates will be selected across 26 job categories: ▲12 for Grade 7 ▲2,381 for Grades 8 and 9. Additionally, through the career competitive recruitment exams, 201 candidates will be selected across 19 job categories: ▲30 for Researcher/Instructor ▲25 for Grade 7 ▲146 for Grade 9.
Among them, to expand public service opportunities for socially disadvantaged groups and diversify organizational composition, separate recruitment will be conducted for 272 persons with disabilities, 88 from low-income households, and 43 from technical high schools.
Gyeonggi Province emphasized that there are many changes related to this year’s application process and urged special attention.
First, the minimum age for applying to Grade 7 or higher public official recruitment exams has been lowered from 20 years old to 18 years old, aligning with Grades 8 and 9. Also, for special ranks, except for the IT job category, anyone can apply regardless of certification possession. The cadastral technician certificate has been added to the required qualifications for the Grade 9 cadastral job category.
Additionally, some cities and counties have relaxed residency restrictions for the general civil engineering and architecture job categories in the open competitive recruitment exams, waived application fees for applicants receiving disability pensions, and extended the application cancellation period.
Gyeonggi Province plans to also waive application fees for applicants with two or more minor children (multi-child applicants) in the future.
Notably, as before, duplicate applications for local government public official recruitment exams held on the same date are not allowed; applicants can only apply for one exam at one institution.
Lee Jeong-hwa, Director of the Personnel Division of Gyeonggi Province, explained, "This year’s local government public official recruitment exams in Gyeonggi Province have expanded opportunities for entering public service by lowering the application age and relaxing eligibility requirements. In particular, for some recruitment units, residency restrictions have been eased so that applicants can apply regardless of their address."
