CEO Kang Sung-mook's New Year's Message Emphasizes "Strengthening IB"
Recruitment of Group Leader Jung Young-gyun and Head Kim Hyun-ho
Hana Securities, which has identified "strengthening traditional IB (investment banking)" as a key goal for this year, is enhancing its global IB lineup through the recruitment of external experts and organizational restructuring.
According to the IB industry on the 1st, Kim Hyun-ho, former head of the Investment Banking Division at DS Investment & Securities, started his first day yesterday as the head of the Corporate Finance Division at Hana Securities. The head of the Corporate Finance Division is a position concurrently held by Park Byung-ki, head of IB Division 1, who was promoted to executive director following the organizational restructuring at the end of last year.
Director Kim graduated from Korea University Business School (MBA) and worked at NH Investment & Securities. After moving to Samsung Securities in 2011, he served as director of the IB division. In 2019, he was responsible for financing for mid-sized and small enterprises and real estate finance at eBest Investment & Securities, and in 2022, he led the investment banking division supporting corporate financing at DS Investment & Securities. He is recognized as an expert who has built professional experience across all domestic IB fields, including the equity capital market (ECM), debt capital market (DCM), and real estate finance.
In November last year, Hana Securities also recruited Jeong Young-gyun, former head of the Investment Banking Division at Samsung Securities, as head of the IB Group (vice president). Jeong worked at Hana Bank and Hana Securities before moving to Samsung Securities, where he was in charge of alternative investments. Notably, he is credited with leading the expansion of overseas alternative investments through deals such as the Dunkirk deal. His major achievements include acquiring shares in the Dunkirk liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in France, Macquarie’s acquisition financing for Daesung Industrial Gases, redeemable convertible preferred shares (RCPS) for CJ Logistics and CJ CheilJedang, and acquisition financing deals for EMC Holdings. Returning to Hana Securities, he concurrently serves as head of IB Division 2 and also oversees real estate operations.

These changes reflect the will of Kang Sung-mook, CEO of Hana Securities, who emphasized the importance of "strengthening IB." Until now, Hana Securities’ IB division had slower growth in traditional IB areas such as DCM and ECM compared to real estate and overseas alternative investment sectors. In his internal New Year’s address this year, CEO Kang highlighted strengthening asset management (WM), ECM, and corporate finance expansion as key priorities for reinforcing traditional IB. Since his appointment early last year, he has also significantly reorganized the company by establishing and expanding IB-related divisions to balance ECM, DCM, and real estate, aiming to strengthen the IB business.
