'Super-Enterprise Union', First General Assembly of Members on the 31st and Official Launch in February
Unions from 4 Affiliates Including Samsung Electronics DX and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Participate
Four labor unions from Samsung affiliates are taking steps on the 31st to officially launch a 'super-company union' formed through their integration. The union is expected to formally launch next month and begin full-scale activities.
According to industry sources, the 'Samsung Super-Company Labor Union' will hold its first general assembly of members on this day to internally declare its launch and amend its regulations. Once the integrated union is established, the unions of the participating affiliates will become branches, and each union chairman will become a branch chief.
The unions currently known to be participating in the super-company union are the Samsung Electronics DX (Device Experience) Union, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Ribbon Union, Samsung Display Open Union, and Samsung Biologics Sangsaeng Union, totaling four.
Previously, each affiliate's union collected internal opinions by conducting approval votes among members on the establishment of the integrated union starting from the end of last year. The approval rates were high across the board: Samsung Biologics at 99.5%, Samsung Display at 96.12%, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Ribbon Union at 90%, and Samsung Electronics DX Union at 86%.
This is the first time an integrated union has been established. There have been cases of solidarity before. In 2022, the Samsung Group Labor Union Solidarity, composed of unions from 12 Samsung affiliates, demanded wage increases and retirement age extensions from management.
The number of union members participating in the super-company union is approximately 6,000 for the Samsung Electronics DX Union, 3,000 for the Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Ribbon Union, 3,000 for the Samsung Display Open Union, and 1,600 for the Samsung Biologics Sangsaeng Union. The combined total of the four unions is about 13,000 members, which exceeds the approximately 10,000 members of the National Samsung Electronics Union, currently the largest union among Samsung affiliates.
