Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) announced on the 29th that it held the '2025 National Treasury Support Proposal Project New Discovery Report Meeting' and decided to focus administrative efforts on securing national funds.

In particular, as preparations for the 2026 Yeosu World Islands Expo are in full swing this year, the city plans to focus on discovering national treasury support proposal projects linked to the Expo to ensure its successful hosting and will respond with full force to secure national funds.

For new projects, the city identified ▲Creation of a digital experience center at the dinosaur footprint fossil site ▲Removal of vines in island afforestation areas and major scenic spots ▲Improvement of lighting facilities on Baekya Bridge ▲Construction of the main venue for the Islands Expo.

Additionally, related to the Namhaean Marine Leisure Tourism Belt promoted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, new projects were discovered such as ▲Establishment of Yeosu City Indoor Marine Leisure Sports Center ▲Creation of Yeosu Sea Station (small mooring facility) ▲Development of tourism resources for historical exploration of Janggun Island ▲Installation of a monorail at Bonghwa Mountain Observatory in Myodo-dong ▲Expansion of Yeosu Port cruise-only terminal, aiming to build a hub that provides diverse converged marine content in a one-stop manner.

Ongoing projects include ▲Construction of Hwatae~Baekya road in Yeosu ▲Fisheries village revitalization projects ▲Maintenance of Nangdo Port ▲Construction of Samho Bridge at Geomundo Port, which will be actively promoted to expand SOC in island areas and improve living conditions.

Furthermore, projects currently undergoing preliminary feasibility studies or planned for application include ▲Yeosu Industrial Complex CCUS Cluster Construction Project ▲Gwangyang Phase 4 Industrial Water Supply Project ▲Hydrogen pipeline network construction in Yeosu and Gwangyang ▲Dredging project for shipyard concentration sites in Yeosu ▲Road construction connecting Gwangyang Port to Yulchon Industrial Complex. The city plans to actively work to secure economic feasibility (B/C) to ensure inclusion in the 2025 national budget.

Also, projects that were regrettably not reflected in the government budget during last year's National Assembly budget increase stage, such as ▲Namhaean Fisheries Safety Center ▲Introduction of large-capacity port firing system in the Honam region ▲Master plan establishment for post-use of Yeosu World Expo site, will be re-challenged for national fund acquisition through analysis of reasons for non-inclusion and strengthening of rationale.

Starting with this report meeting, Yeosu City plans to continuously discover new local projects aligned with government national agendas, departmental policy reports, and government policies, linked to the 8th local government administration.

Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong of Yeosu said, “Building on the achievement of securing the largest-ever national treasury of 738.5 billion KRW in 2024, we will proactively respond to securing national funds in 2025 to prepare future growth engines,” and added, “Related project staff should cooperate closely with Jeollanam-do and make every effort to strategize visits to central government departments, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the National Assembly to ensure that national treasury support proposal projects are reflected in the government budget.”
