Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Soo-hee) announced that it will operate the 'Sister City Specialty Products Direct Market' at the open yard of the district office on February 1-2 to celebrate the Gapjin Year Lunar New Year.

The district operates the direct market every year before the Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays. Each year, the number of participating companies and visitors increases, setting record sales at every event and establishing itself as a representative market for the holidays.

This direct market will include not only existing sister cities but also newly participating cities such as Pocheon-si in Gyeonggi-do and Wonju-si in Gangwon-do. A total of 18 cities and counties and 29 farms are expected to participate, making it the largest number of farms ever involved since the market's inception, promising a more diverse and abundant direct market.

The district made efforts to minimize overlapping products among sister and exchange cities and to recruit new companies and products for this market. As a result, about 230 different specialty products from various regions have been secured, providing residents with an opportunity to prepare affordable Lunar New Year ancestral rites tables and offering farmers from sister cities new sales channels and increased income opportunities.

As in the previous year, an operations headquarters will be run to oversee the overall event management and conduct various events such as prize draws.

Additionally, the operations headquarters plans to collect some donated sales items through the voluntary participation of the participating farms to share donations with Gangdong-gu residents. Gangdong-gu will also promote the events of sister and exchange cities and the Hometown Love Donation Campaign to further strengthen friendly ties.
