Park Dong-sik, mayor of Sacheon City in Gyeongnam Province, engaged in on-site communication with the public by collecting household waste together with local sanitation workers in the Sacheon-eup area to celebrate Seollal, the largest traditional Korean holiday.


The public communication activity, held on the 30th, was organized to understand the efforts of sanitation workers who strive for a "Clean Sacheon" ahead of the Seollal holiday, and to directly identify their difficulties on-site in order to improve their working conditions.

It also conveyed messages promoting the daily practice of waste separation, recycling, and the use of standard garbage bags. During the Seollal holiday period, the schedule for waste collection and the correct methods for separating and disposing of waste were actively promoted.


On that day, Mayor Park, after receiving safety training and familiarizing himself with work procedures, collected household waste along a 1 km section from in front of Naraskyville in Jeongdong-myeon to in front of Uri Mart.


The sanitation workers said, "The treatment of sanitation workers has improved a lot so far. We hope continuous improvements and attention will be given in the future," and requested, "We would appreciate expanded support such as hot packs in winter and bottled water in summer."


Mayor Park expressed, "I deeply appreciate the hard work of sanitation workers who are doing their best despite difficult conditions such as the recent sharp drop in temperature. Above all, safety is the most important, so please adhere to safety rules such as reducing vehicle speed."


Meanwhile, Sacheon City plans not to collect household waste on February 10, the day of Seollal, and the following day, February 11, but will resume collection on the 12th and collect all accumulated waste during the holiday period by the 14th.
