An explosion occurred at the inland container depot (ICD) in Yangsan, Gyeongnam, injuring one employee.
According to the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters, a report of a fire at a logistics warehouse within the Yangsan Inland Container Depot in Mulgeum-eup, Yangsan City, was received at 9:51 a.m. on the 30th.
At the scene, 36 firefighting vehicles including fire engines and pump trucks, and 108 personnel were deployed.
The firefighters who arrived at the scene extinguished the major fire around 10:36 a.m. and completely put out the fire by 12:15 p.m.
The fire reduced a 1,000㎡ prefabricated building to ashes, and a male employee in his 60s suffered second-degree burns over his entire body and was transported to a hospital.
It is reported that dozens of factory employees evacuated.
The police and fire authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage, as it is believed that the explosion occurred when a factory employee pressed the operation button to start a malfunctioning boiler.
At 10:11 a.m. that day, Yangsan City sent a disaster safety message stating, “An explosion and fire accident occurred at the ICD in Mulgeum-eup, Yangsan City, producing a large amount of smoke. Please detour around the nearby area and exercise caution for safety.”
