From the 1st of next month... 11,000 points expanded in the first half of the year
CU announced on the 30th that it will expand its liquor pickup service starting from the 1st of next month by partnering with DailyShot, a smart liquor order platform, to enhance convenience for purchasing liquor at convenience stores.
DailyShot is a liquor-specialized shopping app with approximately 400,000 monthly active users (MAU). CU explained that through this collaboration, it will be able to significantly expand customer touchpoints by broadening the liquor pickup service channels previously operated through its own commerce app, PocketCU.
To place an order, customers select a CU store and choose products on the DailyShot app, then press the ‘Purchase for Pickup’ button. Pickup is available anytime after a maximum of 40 minutes from purchase. CU plans to offer this service at over 8,600 stores nationwide starting from the service launch on the 1st of next month and expand it to about 11,000 stores by the first half of the year.
The number of consumers making liquor reservations via mobile continues to steadily increase. According to sales trends of CU BAR, CU’s liquor reservation purchase service within PocketCU, sales have more than doubled each year, with 102.6% growth in 2021, 145.2% in 2022, and 190.8% in 2023.
Last year, the main consumer group for CU’s liquor reservation purchases was people in their 40s, accounting for 42.0% of total sales, followed by those in their 30s at 33.6%, 20s at 12.5%, 50s at 10.3%, and 60s and older at 1.6%.
Park Hee-jin, head of BGF Retail’s online commerce team, said, “Convenience stores are strengthening their O4O strategy by enhancing the connectivity between online and offline channels, showing a gradual shift in consumption patterns toward liquor reservation purchases. Going forward, CU will continue to expand partnership services with various online platforms by leveraging the nation’s largest offline network.”
