"Jung-gu Council Urges Prompt Review of Supplementary Budget"

Seoul Jung-gu Emphasizes "Cut Livelihood Budget Must Be Restored"

"Jung-gu Council Urges Prompt Review of Supplementary Budget"

Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Kim Gil-seong) submitted the first supplementary budget proposal for 2024 to the Jung-gu Council on the 12th.

Taking seriously the residents' urgent demand for the budget directly related to their livelihoods to be restored as soon as possible, the district has officially urged the council several times to promptly process the supplementary budget proposal.

However, despite the deadline for convening the extraordinary session having passed, the council remains silent. According to the Local Autonomy Act, when the head of a local government requests the convening of an extraordinary session, the local council must convene it within 15 days, and that deadline was January 29.

While the Jung-gu Council delays the review of the supplementary budget proposal, the resident damages the district feared have become an immediate reality.

The first place affected by the repercussions is the Jung-gu Clothing Fashion Support Center. More than 50% of this year’s budget has been cut, and operations will be suspended starting February. This institution, which had been a strong support for the small-scale sewing industry struggling in the difficult economic situation, can no longer fulfill its role.

Ahead of the 30-year-long resident wish for the relaxation of the Namsan height restriction, Jung-gu prepared an expert pre-design service that residents could actually feel the benefits of the height restriction relaxation, but due to the delay in supplementary budget review, the benefits are not reaching residents at the appropriate time.

If the budget necessary for the operation and management of sports and welfare facilities, public parking lots, and road facility repairs is not secured promptly, the inconveniences experienced by residents will only increase.

The reason Jung-gu is urging the supplementary budget review is to prevent increasing resident damages and to ensure that the valuable projects prepared by the district can benefit residents’ daily lives.

Mayor Kim Gil-seong emphasized, “The Lunar New Year holiday is approaching,” and said, “I hope the Jung-gu Council will promptly review the supplementary budget proposal and restore the cut budget so that Jung-gu residents can have a comfortable and prosperous holiday.”
